Government Technical Institute (Mandalay) was opened on 1959 December 20. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister U Nu himself. The location is between 30 and 31st street, between 68th and 70th streets, Pat Kone Pyawbwe quarter, Chan Aye Thar Zan township.
Promoted as a technical college in 1999, August 20. Now, north of Mandalay Hill at the University of Technology was relocated and reopened in 2002, October 22. The role of the government technical institute has been lost.
In the old place, the woman’s hospital was opened. Now current location 70st and 28st G.T.I (MDY) as a Technical High School was opened . According to the Principle of promotion of the state in 2015, Government Technical Institute was reopened in 2015. Government Technical Institute (MANDALAY) 2015-2016 Academic year was started in 2016 January 25th.
