Civil Engineering


Warmly welcome to the civil engineering department at G.T.I(Mandalay). This department offers A.G.T.I Diploma Certificate in civil engineering. The students have passed out successfully from these departments and can work in various government and private sector as a civil engineer.

Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including public works such as roads, bridges, canals, clams, airports, sewerage system, pipelines, structural components of buildings and railways.

Information of Year I

In the first year, the students are taught three major subjects. One of them, students study the basic of engineering drawing. And the next subject, students are taught the building materials used in construction. In the civil engineering workshop, the students study the basics of carpentry and masonry jobs. The students work the sieve analysis and slump test in the workshop.

Information of Year II

In the second year, the students are taught seven major subjects. Teachers facilitate and support the students about fluid mechanics, building materials & construction and elementary surveying not only theory also practically. The students study the detailed knowledge of roads and bridges. In drawing subjects, the students have to draw the different views of the buildings and the culverts. And they also study the basic knowledge of construction concept in structure. In the second year, they can do neat jobs in the carpentry and masonry works.

Information of Year III

In this year, they learn the applied subjects in the civil engineering field. So they have to know all the concepts of the corresponding subjects and they should be applied to civil engineering. Nowadays, civil engineering takes place in the public sector from municipal through to national governments and in the private sector from individual homeowners through to international companies. Students have to study timber, steel and concrete structure. They can calculate the design of beam, column, slab, and footings of reinforced concrete building and then they have to study about the piping and plumbing systems of the building. They can estimate the cost of the buildings, culverts, and bridges and can draw the different views of the buildings and the bridges. They will be able to know points and crossings, railway. They can know the controlling and harnessing of various natural resources of water, by constructing dam, reservoirs, canals and their head-work and finally distribution channels to the fields. They can do the furniture in the carpentry and in the masonry, they can lay the bricklaying influentially. They can work rebar bending, cutting and tying in the steel reinforcement and choosing the types of rebar.

So all subjects for this year are important for the civil engineering field.

Course Duration 

The students have to learn the practical and theories of civil courses at GTI (Mandalay) for 3-years. If the students have passed the examination and finished the internship, they get A.G.T.I Diploma Certificate.

Course Structure

Class Timings           

From Mondays to Fridays, the G.T.I (Mandalay) is open the class from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. From 11: 30 am to 12:30 am, that time is the lunch break. For one day, the lesson has 7 hours. One lesson is for one hour. For one week, the lesson has 35 hours.

Assessment Methods 

After finished the theories, examine the students by examination. For practical, assess the students by individual relate their job sheets. 

Grading System

  • 81-100  Grade “A”
  • 61-80   Grade “B”
  • 41-60   Grade “C”
  • 21-40   Grade “D”
  • 0-20     Grade “E” 

Admission Requirement details

Must be passed Matriculation Exam with Physics and Chemistry Subjects, and the total high marks of  English and Mathematics.

Career Prospective after Graduate

After getting A.G.T.I (CIVIL) Diploma, they can join as construction engineering, survey engineer, quality control and site inspection engineer.
